Hello everyone, I wish you could hear the above cardinal singing today in and around the garden. She, and it is a female, is flitting everywhere and singing constantly. She goes from the bougainvillea bush to the car and admires herself in the mirror, then to the top of the car, then to the bush. Which brings me to the question; where is the male? Do you suppose he is sitting on the nest? Is this normal? The nest is in the bougainvillea, so he must be there. She hasn't the time! She is too busy admiring herself in the car mirror and chirping. Well, on to the blooms in the garden!
The Zinnias are really pretty, especially these tiny ones above.
I love the sweet potato vine planted with petunias. You can see some Caladium bulbs sprouting in the background. I planted a few more this year.
Love all the colors of Spring!
The front pot contains Basil and Oregano, so I run out and pick some frequently for Italian dishes.
Here are Caladiums from bulbs I planted last year and they have been up quite some time.
The roses are full of bloom. However I do need to treat them for black spot and you can see yellow leaves that need picking off. Lots of work to do in the garden, but it is so rewarding to have beautiful blooms all around!
Never mind about the black spot, it is an ever present menace but it keeps us busy! Is that sweet potato vine an ornamental, or does it actually produce sweet potatoes? It looks very much like our native sweet potato (in New Zealand), the kumara, but I suspect it is an ornamental with similar looking leaves. Loving the colour combinations you have there, such cheerful and zingy shades, especially as we head into our winter season! Sigh.
ReplyDeleteAll your plants are very pretty. The rose blooms are looking really good and I like the look of the Caladiums. You have lots of nice colour everywhere. I've noticed lots of birds around the garden but no cardinals here. They are such pretty birds.
ReplyDeleteLots of work, indeed. The snow here has melted. Maybe rain now. We can always use rain. I am finishing up school this week then out to the garden I go. We don't have cardinals here. There is supposed to be flock in eastern Colorado some 3 hours away from here and my goal for the summer is to drive there to see if I can see them and take pictures. I have seen cardinals at my brother's place in Texas, but he doesn't feed the birds so they are very hard to photograph.Your flowers are lovely, a sign of good nurturing.
ReplyDeleteDear Ms. Shoestring Cottage, yes, the sweet potato vine is an ornamental and such a bright yellow-green. I love cardinals, too, Kelli...they are the Kentucky state bird! Ann, glad your snow has melted and that school will be out. You will enjoy your retirement!
ReplyDeleteLe hasard d'internet me fait arriver dans votre jardin. Intéressant de venir voir à l'autre bout du monde les fleurs et la végétation. Nous ici, le Printemps s'installe doucement après l'hiver bien long. A bientôt
